PARTICIPANTS OF THE MEETING ADDRESSED TO THE WORLD

With posters «No statute of limitation for Sumgayit», «Armenian genocide is a crime against humanity» and with Armenian flag in their hands 100 000 people gathered today in the Republic square to honor the memory of Sumgayit victims.

The organizers of the meeting declared a ”saint minute” of honor, followed by Armenian anthem during which the participants joint in singing with their fists up.

At the beginning of the meeting member of ARFD bureau, NA Vice Speker Vahan Hovhaniisyan spoke: ”Dear people, they haven’t change, they keep destroying people in Sumgayit, Baku, they annihilate our historic monuments, everything that is defenseless. They haven’t changed, but we have. We have the Armenian army for protecting our monuments. 18 years ago on these days the massacre was realized in Azerbaijan. It’s not accidental that we commemorate those tragic days on such a scale. We must win by the truth. We must be united in the truth”.

Publicist Zori Balayan addressed his speech to Armenian community and President of Russia Vladimir Putin: «Recently Vladimir Putin said in Baku, that if not the NKR conflict our joint income will be not 1 but 5 mlrd. I want to address to Vladimir Putin, that one mustn’t busy oneself with poor arithmetic when the matter concerns the whole nation, which appeared to be with your nations in all kinds of situations. We fought and lived with the same principle: the price of blood is blood, the price of love is love, the price of freedom is freedom. And now suddenly that poor arithmetic. Have you thought that if not the question of Azerbaijan now, we could talk about absolutely other milliards? The case in the point is that Azerbaijan declared a most dirty and odious war that carries the name xenophobia. I think, we most keep silent when we make the decision».

After the speeches the participants made their way to all the embassies in Armenia where they passed their applications. The document says that all the demands and terms complying with international legal norms must be carried out under the strict control of world community. The demands are four: to restart the cases against organizers and executors of the massacre in Sumgait and Baku, condemnation of the cynical fact of declaring the Azeri murdered a hero, immediate cessation of cultural vandalism in the territories of Jugha and Nakhijevan and bringing Azerbaijan to account for belligerent position of Azerbaijan, its agitation of racism and violation against Armenian people.
