And Abimelech said unto Abraham, What mean these seven ewe lambs which thou hast set by themselves? And he said, For these seven ewe lambs shalt thou take of my hand, that they may be a witness unto me, that I have digged this well. Wherefore he called that place Beersheba; because there they sware both of them.

Genesis 21.29

Isn't that amazing? It's sad that people don't look for the meaning of these things as King Abimelech sought from Abraham. Abraham gave seven as a witness of the oath (they swore to each other).

Seven is an interesting number. The word Sheva means 7, oath and completion (depending on the vowel marks). Even Abraham knew this and applied.
