Sharapova Defends Birmingham Title
No.1 seed Maria Sharapova continued her dominance on the grass courts, defeating No.3 seed Jelena Jankovic 62 46 61 to win the $200,000 DFS Classic in Birmingham, England. Dating back to Birmingham last year, Sharapova has now won three consecutive grass court tournaments and increases her grass court win streak to 17. Her next scheduled event is Wimbledon, where she looks to defend her first Grand Slam title.
