oslonor, salam! i accidentally run up against ur site ones. to be honest i was pleasently surprised by the content. never thought there was so was interest for the region form outside by "mortals" like u and me..)) i appreciate all ur efforts u put in this. i remember u mentioning the fact ur married to a persian. plz correct me if im wrong. that kinda explanes ur interest i guess). i understand the complexity of the issue and would like to give my personal view, based on my own observations and experience. to most azerbaijanis(i.e people living in the republic of azerbaijan) the life of the azeris in iran is an unknown factor. we know we have shared traditions, cultural and linguistic heritage. but we're totally unfimilar with the lifestyle. of course there are some exceptions but i think this counts for most. i personally would very easily recognize an azeri from iran seeing him/her in a crowd with azerbaijanis and thus knowing that they're azeri and not iranian. im talking only about the physical appearance. once again, there're of course exceptions. furhermore, if we go deeper and look at the behavour and way of talking i must say(again, this is my personal observation) that azeris from iran differ in that from azerbaijanis too. the dialect, intonation, accent, use of words all are different. now, smth about the turkic part. i cant deny the fact that a part of our ancestors was from the oghuz tribe.but to call a nation "turks" only because of that is too early. there isnt just not enough studies conducted about it. i admit theres a large turkiC cultural and linguistic heritage but further we are far from being the exact copies of the turks from turkey and turkish lifestyle. i dont wanna mix politics with scinece and history if u what i mean.. but, ive been thinking a lot about this lately. azerbaijanis from different regions of azerbaijan can differ in physicial appearance.there are turkic looking azeris, there are arab looking azeris, there are caucasian looking azeris, there are dark skinned azeris, there are light skinned azeris. my mothers side for example are from karabakh and are very light skinned and have green eyes, my fathers site is from baku and has darker skin and eyes. what im trying to say is that the whole area was occupied by different tribes,empires and people. thus, it is very mixed. this counts also for the rest of the caucasus and russia. nevertheless, ill find it very interesting to read new articles and examinations(like urs) concerning the region and its history and present. anyway, it was very nice to see u here and i look forward to read new interesting posts) good luck to u

merhaba arkadash. ur against nationalism and i respect that. everyone has his own views. but im afraid u have chosen the wrong forum to talk about it) every person here is nationalist and hates turks.hopefully there arent many hypocrits so that we all could agree on that))im azeri myself and this is what i think about nationalism. in the west(mainly europe) where everything is quiet and the last war was allmost a century ago, people dont accept nationalism.and try to reflect that to the rest of the world. although it is present even in europe. example: french and italian chauvinism. However, in my humble opinion, nationalism doestn necessarilly have to be smth negative. nationalist nations(such as turkey) have are nationalist for a reason. i dont think i will be discovering america again if i say that turkey has lots of enemies)) and when u have so many enemies u cant be weak. u must stay together and fight for what u believe. forget ideolistic considerations. the world we live in is not ideal. where i come from thats called maximalizm. a word that often goes hand in hand with the word "adolescent" infront. cuz its then when u start thinking about life and all the injustice and hostility in the world)).let me continue with an example. i am originally from baku. i dont know how much u heard of it but its the capital of my country. during soviet period known as a multicultural place where every minority, wether it was ethnical or religious, could live in prosperity. baku has raised more famous armenians than yerevan itself maybe)) people often underestimate this fact. why was that? why all people who ever lived in baku without having the possibility to go back....cant think about those times without having a big warm smile on their faces? its not the geographical position of this place that made it so multinational and later on a nostalgic place...IT WAS THE TOLERANCE OF THE MAJORITY.
