Батик - batik -– индонезийское слово. В переводе с Индонезийского слово -bа - означает хлопчатобумажная ткань, а -tik – «точка» или «капля». Ambatik - рисовать, покрывать каплями, штриховать. Индонезию словари называют родиной батика, и закрепилось в мировой культуре именно индонезийское слово. Где и как возник этот способ окраски ткани? Был ли он естественным порождением отдельной материальной культуры или следствием заимствований в процессе товарообмена? Окончательного ответа на эти вопросы пока нет.
