А теперь запретили ехать и ученым. Официальное основание - проблемы с безопасностью. Арарат находится в зоне компактного проживания курдов. А Курдская рабочая партия вроде бы заявила о прекращении перемирия с правительством. И теперь якобы нас могут подстрелить. Но, похоже, что это формальные отговорки. Американцы добрались уже до Турции - они тоже собирались искать ковчег в районе горы Арарат, но в другом месте. Не там, где российская экспедиция. Но и американцы сидят в Стамбуле - к горе их не подпускают. Поляков считает, что у турок обострилась национальная гордость. Недавно, к примеру, в одной из крупных местных газет высказывалось сожаление, что приоритет открытия в случае чего будет за русскими или американцами. И есть непроверенная информация о том, что турки, которые должны были идти с американцами, отказались от восхождения и решили идти сами. Naturally they are hoping for lots of sunny weather. Mehmet Ali Arslan, a Turkish mountaineer who grew up in a town near Mount Ararat, will lead the team. The 10-man Turkish-American search team still awaits Ankara's approval for their adventure.. "We will not make any excavations, nor will we remove anything. We will simply takes photos, and, if God permits, all of you will see them," said Daniel P. McGivern, Chief of Shamrock Trinity Inc. Over the years many have scoured the peak of Mount Ararat hoping to find the remnants of the legendary ark of the Great Flood, but to no avail. Reportedly a Turkish Air Force pilot had taken a photo of an ark-like formation in the region of Mount Ararat. However, no attempt has yet been made to confirm the photo. The entire region was closed to foreigners throughout most of the Cold War period. The reason being that the USSR claimed the foreign researchers were US spies and threatened Turkey with action if the foreigners were allowed to remain in the area. Although the ban was lifted in 1982, research teams in the region have not been able to uncover any remains of the ark in question. McGivern and Arslan explained that satellite photographs could help spot the exact location of the ark. Religious sources say that the ark carrying Noah's family and two of every kind of animal ran aground over a high mountain.
