MEHTIEV SAYS HE HAS PROOF ALIEV IS A KURD Ashraf Mehtiev, chairman of the Association of Victims of Illegal Political Repression who was defeated in the recent Azerbaijani presidential elections, has told the independent Azerbaijani television station ANS that he has proof corroborating persistent rumors that President Heidar Aliev is an ethnic Kurd and a Yezidi, "Vremya-MN" reported on 22 October. Mehtiev referred to an article published in the daily newspaper of the Azerbaijan Communist Party Central Committee in 1934 stating that Aliev's elder brother Hasan was the first Kurd to embark on graduate studies in the USSR. Over the past month, Azerbaijani opposition newspapers, primarily the outspoken "Yeni Musavat," have repeatedly claimed that some senior Azerbaijani officials are sympathetic to, or even provide support for, the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) which, the paper claims, has bases on Azerbaijani territory. Among the officials named in this connection are senior members of the Sumgait municipal council and Baylar Eyyubov, who heads President Heidar Aliev's personal security service and is said to be of Kurdish origin. Those press articles have prompted several opposition parties to demand that law enforcement agencies take action against the alleged PKK presence (see "RFE/RL Newsline," 20 May 2002), and that the Azerbaijani parliament formally declare the PKK a terrorist organization. The parliament has addressed the issue twice (on 21 and 31 May ). On both occasions, deputies from the ruling Yeni Azerbaycan party accused the opposition of seeking to drive a wedge between Azerbaijan and its strategic ally, Turkey, by raising the issue. The opposition's objective is, however, presumably to try to convince Ankara that despite Baku's pledges of eternal friendship, it is the current Azerbaijani leadership that is acting counter to Turkish interests, and the opposition which can be counted on to function as Turkey's loyal ally and partner. Visiting Turkish officials, including Defense Minister Sabahattin Kivrikoglu, have publicly assured their Azerbaijani counterparts that Ankara does not give credence to such allegations of Azerbaijani support for the PKK. On 5 June, Azerbaijan's National Security Ministry finally issued an official statement denying that there is a PKK presence in Azerbaijan. But at the same time that statement revealed that no less than 33 members of the PKK have been apprehended on Azerbaijani territory in recent years. Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of the ongoing controversy is that some Azerbaijani politicians have publicly claimed that President Aliev is himself Kurdish. That belief is based partly on his physical appearance, and partly on newspaper reports from the 1930s identifying his elder brother Hasan as the first Kurd in Soviet Azerbaijan to embark on post-graduate study and defend his dissertation. MIke ответ на вопрос, с чего Армения неоткрывает ЖД Баку-Нахиджевань, я писал, с меня неубудет могу повторить. Грузия пропускает грузы из России в Армению и Армения заявила, что она готова сама непользоваться ЖД Карс-Гюмри-Тбилиси пок а политические проблемы с Турцией нерепены, а лиш предоставить транзитный корридор для грузов из Турции в Грузию. Еслиб зирбиджан пропускал бы транзитные грузы по дороге Тегеран-Джульфа - Ереван то можноб было говорить о сравнениях и необходимости пропускать транзит из Баку в Нахиджевань. И ещё я гояворил, что Грузия хочет Карс-Ахалкалаки лиш для того, чтоб оставить за собой монопольное право на транзит грузов в Армению из России и Турции, что даёт им возможность держать тарифы высокими... Чтоб избавиться от этой монополии Армения и Россия потратяться на антилоббирование проэкта Карс-Ахалкалаки...

If you will follow a history of osman empire, you will see, that Genocide of Armenians, Greeks, Aramians and other minorities in 20th century, organized from Turkisch goverment was nothing else than a last tries to keep the empire. The fabrications like - armenians or greeks were themselfs guilty, as of they start to build independancy, make impossible a coexistance of turks thinking like you and armenians in same country, as of it shows that turks like you do not respect a right of others leave a common house and build their own one.
