  1. Thanks! Here's another one: մրնջոց. I can't find it in my dictionary. Thanks in advance!
Would it have been normal to tie a frame to a door of a misbehaving priest or villager? Another question: what does the phrase "ձեռքս չորանա" mean? Or should I take it literally?
  4. Neither did I. But this is supposed to be an Armenian priest in an Armenian village. So I'm wondering why a Russian religious word would be used instead of an Armenian one. What have "rizas" to do with the Armenian church? Unless it's something they got from the Russians in this particular region. I guess this question goes beyond linguistics into culture. But I'm interested in the deeper implications of it nevertheless.
  5. Here's another one: ամի, used with a name, such as "Սարո ամի". Uncle Saro? Thanks for any help!
  6. Another question: what's a համհարզ? One dictionary tells me "bodyguard", the other an "adjutant" (not sure what that is). What do you think?
  7. Hi Kars, Curtain could work. The broader context is a priest doing his thing with a woman who prostitutes herself to him at his house. The villagers find out, get angry, and tie a "razi" to his door. What other meanings does "razi" have?
  8. Ի՞նչ է ռուսերենով: It might make sense within the rest of the context that I have.
  9. Here's another one, I think: ռիզա or ռիզան Context: Նա կապում է դռան ռիզան: (he ties something to the door?) I have a feeling it's a Persian word, but I might be wrong.
  10. Thanks! In my dictionary it says (within a religious context): Արտերի` ցանքսերի օրհնություն, անդաստանօրհնեք: Blessing of crops? Harvest? I'm not at all familiar with religious/Christian vocabulary.
  11. And also.. what's a "ծխատեր" in the religious/church sense?Also, "անդաստան", still religious/church.
  12. Hi,Another question: what is a "խնուսցի"? Thanks in advance!
  13. Hi,I'm wondering what "դինջ" and "դինջանալ" mean. Thanks for any help!
  14. Hi there,I'm looking for the meaning of "հարճ"? My dictionary explains it as: "երկրորդական կին", but I don't understand the concept. Does it mean "secondary wife"? Or maybe "second wife"? What is the cultural implication of a secondary wife? Are we talking about polygamous relationships? Thanks for any help!
  15. Thanks, once again! In Armenian literature. These were from Bakounts.
  16. Thanks, Kars! I didn't realize that "kurgan" was used in English as well. Another question: how would you translate "համախոսական" (noun/goyakan) into English? I'm not quite sure what it means in Armenian, but it seems to have something to do with reports, agreements, or contracts. What do you think?
