  1. Նորից բարև, Երկու հարց ունեմ. 1. What is a "չինովնիկ"? 2. What is a "կուրգան"? (context: ես իմ ձեռքերով եմ էնտեղ կուրգանի քարերը սահմանի վրա շարել") Thanks!
  2. I'm back again. What is "պլեն"? The context is: "լուր բեր գերմանու պլենից". I'm assuming "germanu" means "German," but what is "plen"? Anyone? Thanks in advance!
  3. I almost feel guilty coming back so soon again, but there you have it. Maybe one day I'll be able to do something in return. I'm looking for the English name of the skin disease or condition ծաղկավեր/ծաղկատար. Thanks for any help in advance.
  4. Hi, another question. What is Ռուսեթ? It's meant to refer to the Russian czar, but I'm unable to contextualize it. Is it a common way of referring to the czar?
  5. Sorry, I got it. It means "sister's," derived from "aqir," which is dialectal for "sister."
  6. Hi there, I'm back again. I'm looking for the definition/translation of աքոր. The context is someone (person A) has said something to someone else (person B), and now person A remembers that person B had said an աքոր խոսք to him. What does աքոր mean in Նա Սուրենի աքոր խոսքը հիշեց? By the way, "Souren" said that a misfortune was to befall on the village they are living in. Could aqor mean ominous?
  7. Hi Kars and thank you! I think "office" works better in the context of the rest of the text that I have, because the man is actually looking for Souren, and not someone else. Can kantselar also mean "office," as SAS suggested, or does it only mean "clerk"? As for dourgar... both "potter" and "carpenter" work, since there isn't any context (i.e. the man's profession is not described). It's up to you guys to decide.
  8. Well, I'm back again. Here's a Russian word (I think): կանցելար. Counsellor, consular, or something completely different? The sentence is: Սուրենի կանցելարը ո՞ւր է: (where is Souren's what?) Thanks for your help again!
  9. Thank you Kars and Аида Суреновна!! And yes, this is a great place to ask language questions! P.S. to Аида Суреновна: I'm sorry I don't understand Russian. I do understand Armenian though.
  10. Hi Kars and thanks for your input. It's definitely դուրգար, but it's a text written in an Eastern Armenian dialect (not sure which). I'm thinking, could it be դուրգարար? To mean potter? That would make sense.
  11. Hi! I need your help again. What is a դուրգար? From the context of the text it's meant to be some sort of trade (as in work), but I'm not sure what. դուրգ seems to have something to do with leather (if I'm right), but I'm not sure if it's related to the word դուրգար. I'm not even sure if the word is Armenian, although it sounds like it... Thanks in advance,
  12. Thanks, Kars! I think pauper works. The sentence was, or part of the sentence was: "ուզում ա հարուստ քյասիբ խառնի իրար", i.e. he wants to equalize the rich and the poor, which makes sense in the context of the Soviet revolution.
  13. Hi, Was my post removed? If so, why? I would still like to know what "qyasib" means. Thanks!
  14. I read the passage again and from what I understand, this particular pisir goes door to door offering his writing skills to illiterate people (letters, documents, etc.) in exchange for money or food. He doesn't have a very good reputation, because he charges too much for the work he delivers and is befriended with authority. I'm guessing a "penman" would come closest to it. Btw, is pristav the same thing, or derived from the same word?
  15. Thanks! But what is a handwriter? Do you mean a scribe? Or a clerk?
  16. Hi, Can anyone help me with the meaning of the word պիսիր ? It sounds like a Russian word, related to some sort of officer or chief (perhaps police or government), but I might be wrong. The context isn't very clear either. Does anyone have an idea? Thanks in advance! (p.s. please don't reply in Russian, as I don't understand it!)
  17. Good argument.
I don't understand the rule here. Why "սովորել"? Այս նախադասությունը գրելիս գիտեի որ սխալ էր, բայց չգիտեի ինչպես փոխեի որ ճիշտ լիներ: Ուրեմն շատ շնորհակալ ցուց տալիս (??) ինչ էր սխալը: Ուրեմն, "հատ" բառը քիչ եք ոգտագործում: Ամենայն դեպս այտենց որ ես եմ ոգտագործել, այտենց չի ոգտագործվում: Thank you! I did not know this. It's true, we use "otar" to say "other" or "different". For foreigner, we say "otaratsi", and for "foreign" something like "otar teghits" or "sahmanits durs".
