Hi dear forum members, As usual, I have a linguistic question about a word or phrase that I came across while reading (and occasionally translating) Armenian literature. This time it's the word "քոմագ" in this story by Toumanian. Any ideas? Thanks!

Calls "To Arms!" have died away, Forlorn of hope they have become, The country newly shaped and formed Seethes and simmers from within, To later spew horrifically, Louder than a thunderous cloud, And like a volcano's eruptive burst, Red-hot glowing fiery lava. To rumble, crash, to flood, and drown The bloody throne of this brutal boor, Slaughtered enough suns he has, This cruel brute with his spidery brow. Oh, when has Egypt ever dug Holes so deep down in our roots? No one has ever oppressed us so Like this mighty whoreson has. This is one of my favorite Terian poems and I tried my hand at translating it a few years ago. I reread my translation recently and was compelled to make a few small changes. I know it's supposed to be insulting and I know it's about Gevo's horses, but I can't make out the grammar and what he means. Here it is in context--Gevo, with his wretched coach and horses, tries to park among the "well-off" coaches. The other coachmen scoff at him and drive him away. SAS, I don't even know where to start with thanking you! Thank you so much! If I manage to succeed even a little bit, I'll post a translation of this poem here once I'm done with it. Also, the version I posted here is the same version that is at the beginning of this thread. I've noticed that many works on the internet (poetry and prose) have mistakes in them. The sad thing is that once a "wrong" version is out there, everybody copies it from each other, and it becomes very difficult to find the right one.

Hi, I came across this poem a while back and I've been trying to decipher it since. I was hoping some of you could help clarify some things. I understand the poem to be about the Stalinist persecutions of which Charents was a victim. The "kinto" goes around in his coach snatching people here and there and spilling blood and tears. My problem is with some of the details in the poem. There are some words that escape me and some lines that I'm having trouble understanding altogether. I've colored everything that I don't understand in red. If you have additional comments, please don't hesitate! Thanks a mil! Վարգում է, ոտնում է անցնում, Տիրան է, Ներոն է բռնի, "To catch Tira and Nero." Are Tira and Nero random names representing how random the persecutions were, or were they actual people? I understand it to be some sort of coach or carriage drawn by horses that served as public transportation before the bus. By the description in the story, it almost seems like a pre-engine, horse-drawn marshrutka. Just wondering, though, what is the best equivalent in English? And does anyone have an image of a դրոգ?
